Lisa O’Grady, our Travel Officer raised St. Colman’s 4th Green Flag today. She was helped by our youngest pupil, Brooke and out oldest pupil Trystan. The flag was awarded for the promotion of sustainable travel to school. The Green Schools committee did a fantastic presentation and Kearys brought an electric car to the school. Big thanks to The Parents Association who kindly treated the children to an ice cream to round off the celebrations.
Congratulations to all our gardeners!! We were presented with a certificate and cheque for €75 by Mayor of Cork Cllr. Declan Hurley at the Muintir na Tìre School Garden Awards.
Thank you to Muintir na Tìre, Griffin’s Garden Centre and Cork County Council.
Our quiz team made up of Meave, Tommy, Conor and Dara had a busy few weeks participating in the Community Radio Youghal Brain Blaster Challenge. 16 local schools battle it out on radio to see who becomes the outright winners. First up was Cloyne v Inch NS which we won narrowly to earn a place in the quarter finals. Next up was Curraglass NS on May 17th, so while everyone had the day off school the team put on their school uniform and headed for Youghal. Once again the questions went our way and we got through to a semi final against Kinsalebeg. With tensions high in the recording studio as both semi finals and final were recorded on the same day, we overcame our nerves to get a spot in the final against our near neighbours Shanagarry. After 7 rounds involving Maths, History, Science and Nature, Spelling, Sport, Audio Round and Captains Blast Off we were crowned CRY Brain Blaster 2018 Winners. A big thank you to Marie McGrath and Mrs O’Keeffe who prepared and helped us along the way. You can listen to our quiz on CRY 104fm on the following days at 1.30pm or 5.30pm, 18th June, 22nd June and 25th June.
