On Wednesday, the 21st of June, we celebrated achieving our Active Flag and our third Green Flag by having a flag raising ceremony. With the fantastic weather that we were lucky to have, the whole school, staff and some parents were able to sit outside for proceedings.
We had beautiful performance of ‘Ode to Joy’ on the tin whistle by 6th class. Our Principal Ms. O’Brien spoke to the school about the achievements and encouraged everyone to keep up the hard work. Ms. Long spoke about the Green School committee followed by children from the committee who explained the work that happened to achieve the flag. Similarly Ms. Kearney introduced the Active Flag and members of that committee discussed that process. We were delighted to have our guest of honour, Dónal Óg Cusack, talk to the children and congratulate them on their success.
Dónal Óg then helped children from both committees raise the flags. The school choir gave a wonderful performance of the African chant “Bambelala” which means Never Give Up.
