Today sees the start of Maths Week so the Maths Dept in Midleton CBS Secondary School invited local schools to attend their inaugural Maths Quiz for primary pupils.<\/p>\n

St Colman’s sent 2 teams of four. Elise, Saoirse, Melanie, Tom, James, Darragh, Killian and Eoin competed for over 10 rounds. In the end, one of our teams were in joint 1st place with the other in joint 2nd place.<\/div>\n
The tie-breaker question was a tough one.<\/div>\n
“As the crow flies what is the distance in miles from London to New York?”<\/div>\n
While all the adults present checked Google, Cloyne and Carrigtwohill both had to write down a guess. Carrigtwohill were closer to the answer of 3461 miles and took the top prize. All was not lost however as Midleton CBS invited each participant to partake in some refreshments. Lovely drinks, sweets and crisps were on offer. This was a great opportunity for all to see secondary school life and see transition year students run a table quiz.
